What does your company do?
The Transformation Legacy is an entrepreneur development company which specializes in developing and supporting entrepreneurs by propelling them to grow their small businesses into sustainable enterprises. We do this through mentorship, coaching and practical skills training by empowering the business owners with skills the skills, knowledge and tools to operate and grow thriving businesses.The company intends to capacitate ordinary entrepreneurs to achieve lasting success in their businesses and thus leave a lasting legacy. Entrepreneur development, in our context, encompasses the identification, mobilization and capacitating of entrepreneurs by providing support through, mentorship and training programmes that aim to empower entrepreneurs to significantly grow their businesses. At The Transformation Legacy, we seek to develop entrepreneurs that can make a meaningful and significant contribution to their communities and the economy through their success and sustainability. The company’s ambition is to be amongst the leading entrepreneur development consultancy in the continent and make significant contribution to the development of the SMME sector. A contribution that will result in increased number of prosperous entrepreneurs, job creation, eradication of poverty and economic growth, in the country, and the Continent. In addition, our programmes result in effective and measurable access to markets opportunities for SMME’s as well as ensuring that companies have suitable and reliable SMME suppliers that they can procure services from. My vision is to see black owned businesses transcending from one generation to another and thus existing beyond its founder, leaving a meaningful legacy in its communities.My commitment to empowering small businesses dates back to 2007 after completing my first degree. When I moved back home to Hammanskraal, I saw that many of the small businesses that were around while I was growing up had closed down or were struggling. This was incredibly heart breaking and led to me asking myself why so many small businesses fail and why they don't transition into medium-sized businesses and big businesses that have the potential to outlive their founders? I started looking for answers and after speaking to many business owners, it became obvious that ventures fail because the founders don’t have the knowledge to grow their businesses to the point where they are sustainable. It comes down to a lack of business acumen, knowledge, skills and information. I launched The Transformation Legacy to provide development interventions that would help create long-term sustainability in small businesses.Although our focus is on the development of SMMEs, we also focus on empowering women by having a woman only staff complement, setting an example to the rest of the market that women are able to do excellent and impactful work. I believe that many women have the potential to do amazing things in business and they just need to be afforded opportunities, the mentorship and the platform to showcase their potential. As an organization, what we offer to our clients externally, is what we do with our team internally. We pride ourselves in having in-house training and mentorship programmes leading to the growth and development of our staff members.We live by our slogan: developing entrepreneurs, changing nations, building legacies.
What is your biggest success?
We are happy to have celebrated some successes that have been very close to our heart as listed below:
- NQF level 4 accreditation for the New Venture Creation qualification, we are accredited by Services SETA. This was awarded in December 2018 and has enabled us to offer accredited business skills training.
- In 2019 we have had over 180 entrepreneurs on our programmes, 345 new jobs created and 240 new major clients obtained.
- 2019 Impact Certificate: One of our programmes was audited independently by the Greenhouse Foundation, to determine how much impact it had on SMMEs. This led to our programme being certified as it led to great impact in the businesses that participated.
- Our revenue has grown by 93% in the 2020 financial year.
- In 2020 we managed to grow our revenue by 15%, growing during the COVID-19 pandemic has been a great milestone. We were able to execute four new projects during the height of the pandemic.

What has been your biggest hurdle?
The successes to date didn't come about without any challenges, some of which are listed below:
The business is in its growth phase and we are establishing ourselves in the market;
the challenge that comes with that is accessing new clients and getting them to learn more about our services.
Hiring skilled employees that can fit in well into the culture of the business. It is
challenging for skilled individual to join a company that is new in the market.
The lack of resources available to build grow the company. When the business
started, we didn't have any funding available, we basically had to bootstrap and save
as much as possible to grow the business.
Having automated systems that can improve the efficiency of our work is one of our goals; however, we currently cannot afford to have some of the systems in place currently.
