Thuto Thusa
What does your company do?
At Thuto Thusa our mission is to make education and information accessible to all, whether it is getting into the right university or career path. We believe that access to information and resources goes a long way in closing the inequality gap.
What is your biggest success?
1. Growing our YouTube and Instagram channel. Over the past 3 years since launching our career day initiative which offers free career personality tests and career guidance videos.
We have almost 3000 subscribers and our over 90,000 views across both platforms. Our videos are also used during career days in schools. We have profiled over 20 professions giving students insights into what a typical day looks like in that field in an engaging and animated video. Also providing information on the subjects required , courses studies, types of university and even salaries of that profession.
We have also created videos taking students on how to complete a university application form.
Our free career personality test which is funded by our organization also has a video guiding students and teachers on what the test is about and how to take it and interpret the results.
2. Our founder was a category winner in education at the 2023 Mail&Guardian Top200 young people in South Africa.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
Our biggest hurdle has been getting funding to enable us to create more videos and profile more professions and also funding to visit schools especially in disadvantaged areas to run career guidance workshops.
