Miss Phenomenal South Africa
What does your company do?
Miss Phenomenal South Africa is a campaign for mental health awareness. The pageant gives girls across South Africa between the ages of 16 and 30 mostly in rural and informal communities a platform to become ambassadors in their communities. Our pageant focuses on having our Semi finalists campaign in their communities for mental health awareness, these campaigns are done at schools, orphanages, old age homes, Clinics, Hospitals, disability homes, community events , corporate events rally’s, peace walks in a period of 6 months. The organisation provides all entrants with leadership skills, financial literacy skills, mentorship, life coaching, mental wellbeing. We have an online social worker on hours to help our ambassadors with challenges they face, at the end of our campaign we have our annual crowning ceremony whereby all finalists meet in Gauteng and are all awarded. Our mission is to inspire, empower and transform lives.
What is your biggest success?
My greatest achievement has been having the Miss Phenomenal South Africa pageant operational for the past 9 years reaching to over 160 000 people through our campaigns . In these 9 years we have helped hundreds of girls that have been sexually abused obtain counselling and restore their confidence, We have helped many young women become readers through the campaign , We have helped many young women start NPO’s and businesses, We have mentored over 3500 young women across the country in the past 9 years.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
Our biggest hurdle had been funding and sponsorship. We have young women travel from the deep rural areas of Eastern Cape / Kwa Zulu Natal Limpopo etc , to Gauteng for the crowning ceremony and not being able to make it because of finances. This really breaks our heart at times we are able to assist from our own pockets although at times they are extremely exhausted.
