What does your company do?
Killer Audio Creations is an umbrella for victim-focused storytelling in audio and book format around violent crime in South Africa. The True Crime South Africa podcast has been the biggest success story for Killer Audio Creations. The podcast was created in 2019 and has quickly become one of South Africa's most successful podcasts overall. More importantly, the platform has given victims of crime and their families and independent space that is not owned by mass media to share their stories. It has also helped to educate listeners around the justice system and their rights within in it.
What is your biggest success?
The podcast has brought in new leads on very old, cold cases and some have been reopened as a result. This is undoubtedly one of my proudest achievements. In addition to this, countless listeners reach out to express how much the podcast has taught them and some have even found the strength to go ahead and seek justice for crimes committed against them after listening to the podcast.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
Navigating the very fi ne line between dealing with human trauma and telling these stories in a way that honours the victims.
