Skulpod, an award-winning design and manufacturing company founded in 2018, is pioneering the future of sustainable, modular living solutions.
Our innovative construction techniques involve manufacturing customisable pre-fabricated modules in a controlled off-site environment, ensuring faster, cost-efficient, and low-impact on the environment on-site builds. This approach is redefining luxury hospitality in remote and challenging locations such as Antarctica and Parks Victoria, Australia, aligning with the evolving demands of sustainable tourism.
Our design philosophy is rooted in flexibility and sustainability, offering visionary solutions that harmonise with architectural and environmental needs. Skulpod is dedicated to reshaping the future of living habitations, inspiring a new era of sustainable tourism practices through practical and imaginative modular design.
What is your biggest success?
Our proof of concept, Camp Echo, successfully overwintered in Antarctica, showcasing our ability to create resilient modular living solutions in extreme conditions. The camp opened in December 2022, demonstrating both durability and comfort in one of the harshest environments on Earth.
We hold multiple design patents, with applications registered in South Africa, the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada, and additional filings currently in process. This reflects our commitment to innovation and protecting our unique designs globally.
In recognition of our groundbreaking work, we were finalists in the "Lodges, Cabins and Tented Camps" category at the AHEAD Awards Americas 2023 in New York. We also won the "New Concept" category at the same prestigious event, underscoring our leadership in creating visionary and sustainable modular living solutions.
These achievements highlight our dedication to advancing sustainable tourism and redefining modern habitation.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
My biggest hurdle has been bootstrapping my startup while staying innovative and positive through tough times. Building the business from the ground up meant facing new challenges, bravely opening doors, and pushing past fears. Reflecting on my progress fuels my determination to keep growing.
Support from loved ones has been crucial, helping me realise that hard work and perseverance can overcome any obstacle. Their encouragement has strengthened my belief in myself and the business. Each achievement, no matter how small, is a testament to my resilience.
This journey has shown me that growth comes from facing adversity head-on and that dedication is key to success. With this mindset, I'm confident I can reach even greater heights, inspired by my past and driven by the future!
