R’s Biltong bizzare
What does your company do?
We sell Biltong.
What is your biggest success?
As the sole owner and operator of my biltong business, my biggest success was finally perfecting my secret recipe and selling out my entire stock at the local farmer's market in just one day! It was a huge accomplishment for me, as I had spent countless hours experimenting with different marinades and cooking techniques to create the perfect blend of flavors and textures.
Seeing the smiles on customers' faces when they tried my biltong for the first time and hearing their enthusiastic feedback was incredibly fulfilling. I sold over 50 bags that day, which may not seem like a lot, but it was a significant milestone for my small, one-person operation. It validated all the hard work and long hours I had put into building my business from scratch. I left the market feeling proud and motivated to keep pushing forward, knowing that my passion for biltong was resonating with others.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
As the sole owner and operator of my biltong business, my biggest hurdle has been managing the entire operation alone, from production to marketing to sales. It can be overwhelming at times, and I often find myself wearing multiple hats - from butcher to accountant to social media manager!
Specifically, some of the biggest challenges I face include:
- Scaling production to meet demand while maintaining quality control
- Finding time for marketing and advertising to reach new customers
- Managing finances and cash flow as a solo entrepreneur
- Dealing with the physical demands of meat processing and packaging
- Staying up-to-date with food safety regulations and compliance
Despite these challenges, I'm passionate about my business and committed to finding solutions and seeking support when needed. I've learned to prioritize tasks, seek mentorship, and take breaks when necessary to avoid burnout.
