What does your company do?

Construction, Maintenance, and Civils

What is your biggest success?

My biggest success happened in 2019 when my son joined the Company. He studied Civil Engineering at UCT and I was sure that he would pursue his own dreams thereafter. However, much to my surprise, I learnt that he was secretly marketing my business in Cape Town whilst in his final year of study. My business just took off from there. My son took my business to new heights. His innovative thinking, new and fresh ideas and being an out of the box thinker, a hard worker with a positive outlook on negative situations and a calm disposition definitely helped me succeed up to this day. My business grew exponentially with us opening a branch in the Western Cape and with further plans to open a branch in Johannesburg in the near future. My business also thrived during Covid as my Company was one of few chosen to provide and create isolation units in certain hospitals. Many businesses were afraid to go near hospitals, however I refused to decline this offer and I strongly believe that my faith carried my Company during this difficult time. Not a single staff member picked up Covid, we survived through this dreadful time and not only was I able to put food on the tables of all our staff, but the Company did really well.

What has been your biggest hurdle?

My biggest hurdle was definitely cash flow and people not believing in my vision. It has been a struggle trying to obtain finance to pay salaries, buy machinery, etc. However, I have been in business since 2005 and even though I have often had to rely on credit cards, overdrafts etc. just to pay salaries and ensure that our suppliers are paid timeously I remain committed to the business and keeping my doors opened for a very long time.
