Trash Converters (Pty) Ltd
What does your company do?
Trash Converters is a waste management company that is in the pursuit of closing the circular loop with its day to day operations. We provide the following services, recycling of general waste through a community buy-back centre wherein we collect and buy recyclables such as paper, plastic, glass and cans wherein we bale them into cubes and sell them to end users in Gauteng.
We do skip bin hiring services wherein we hire out 2-6 cubic skip bins wherein we do short and long rentals for households and commercial areas where we collect all other waste such as general waste, garden waste, hazardous and building rubble.
What is your biggest success?
One of the biggest successes for a waste company is reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills and maximizing recycling and composting efforts. To date have diverted more than ±2000 tonnes of waste from the landfill. This has not only conserved natural resources but also reduced pollution, contributed to climate stability and increased the direct and indirect jobs that we have created.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
Our biggest hurdles as a waste management company is often the challenge of changing public attitudes and behaviours towards waste disposal and recycling. Encouraging people to properly sort their waste, recycle more, and reduce their overall waste footprint has been rather slow. Additionally, regulatory compliance and navigating complex environmental regulations have posed significant challenges for us. Securing adequate funding for investments in infrastructure and system development to improve waste management processes has been a hurdle for us.
