What is your biggest success?
My biggest success was developing the technique to do permanent makeup on ethnic skin. This was previously thought to be impossible due to the risk of hyperpigmentation. Working with overseas dermatologists and estheticians, I was able to perfect this technique in 2019. It is now commonly provided as as a treatment option in many South Africa Salons. I now provide training on these and other techniques to aspiring beauty therapists.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
My biggest hurdle has been language. Arriving in South Africa from Germany in 1986, I could not speak any english. This impacted me not only in my school studies, but was also the reason that I was unable to pursue my desired career of being a vet.
