What does your company do?
Plumbing and construction company, specializing in bathroom RENOvations.
What is your biggest success?
Being a woman in a male dominated industry I'd say would single handedly be my biggest achievement, but in reality, my company is my passion and my staff are fantastic, without them, I wouldn't have achieved anything!
In addition, Surviving through the COVID lockdown, I registered as an emergency services company to assist on plumbing and building emergencies was a massive achievement for me. My plumber and I were the only two working at that time and driving around with no other vehicle in sight was not only scary but was very earie. It's an experience in my life that I would definitely NOT like to repeat!
We were very lucky to be sufficiently in demand to have had enough work to have kept us open !
What has been your biggest hurdle?
Being an SME, I can honestly say there has been three hurdles:
. Alcohol and drugs - this has been a struggle from day one. There is no discrimination on who gets affected by these illnesses/evils, but working on roofs and sometimes doing dangerous work, even driving, people aren't forthcoming when they're using. To manage staff when using is a challenge in itself.
Next challenge is on time payments - I've found large corporations seem to be the worst as well as complexes.
It would be ideal to have a sufficient bank balance to work efficiently .
Another hurdle was being viciously attacked by a client's dog that ripped my face off, bit my arm and ripped my muscles, bit my breast and underarm. This was a tremendous hurdle to get through considering that I am very hands on! This caused my company to take quite a hit as I suffered severe depression and went through infections in my jaw that caused lock jaw. I'm currently still working through Department of Labour for COID claim.
