What is your biggest success?
As the CEO of The Skills Mine, my greatest success has been building a purpose-driven business that connects talent to opportunity across the globe—from Johannesburg to Cape Town, Dubai, and beyond. We've placed hundreds of individuals in meaningful roles across tech, telecoms, finance, education, marketing, and more. But what truly defines our success is our impact on people’s lives—especially young people.
I am deeply passionate about youth employment. Through powerful partnerships, we’ve given young learners access to real work experience, career development, and the tools to succeed in competitive industries. Many have grown into confident professionals, which is a source of immense pride.
Our ethos—Educate, Empower, Employ—is at the core of everything we do. Leading The Skills Mine has allowed me to create a business that delivers not just results, but real transformation. For me, success is about people, purpose, and long-term impact—not just placements.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
One of the biggest hurdles I’ve faced as CEO of The Skills Mine is navigating the high unemployment rate, particularly among youth in South Africa. Many talented young people are eager to work. Still, they are held back by deep-rooted socio-economic barriers—limited access to information, poor digital infrastructure, and a lack of work experience.
Bridging this gap has required more than just recruitment; it’s demanded innovation, empathy, and a long-term vision. A major challenge has been using technology effectively to simplify the job search process for both candidates and employers, especially in under-resourced communities.
We’ve had to build systems that are not only data-driven and efficient but also human-centered and inclusive. Tackling these structural issues hasn’t been easy, but it’s pushed us to think differently and develop solutions that empower individuals—proving that with the right tools and support, opportunity can be accessible to all.
