Leafline Pty Ltd
What does your company do?
Leafline manufactures washable sanitary wear made from processed fibre taken from the leaf of the Cayenne pineapple. The company has expanded and processes the fibre taken from the leaves.
Our product range includes washable sanitary towels, adult and children's diapers.
Leafline trains ladies and gents from the rural community to sew the products. Some of the staff the company employs have mental disabilities.
What is your biggest success?
My greatest achievement has been to win the SAB Foundation award for disability. This enabled me to open a factory and create employment. With the assistance of the SPAR group we have been able to sustain the business to date. We are currently looking at expansion into 600 SPAR retail stores and growing the business to other areas of need.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
Our largest hurdle has been to try and introduce washable items back into society. Disposable items have huge impact on the environment, and they are not affordable for the poorer communities.
Keeping the company sustainable has been a major challenge, although I would not say a hurdle as we have managed to keep everyone employed and to donate many sanitary towels through our key partners.
