Enabled Enlightenment
What does your company do?
Enabled Enlightenment is a disability justice nonprofit that empowers people with disabilities, transforms communities, and advances inclusivity. We focus on accessibility, advocacy, and education to challenge societal norms and promote equity. Through workshops, psychosocial support, policy advocacy, after-school programs, and media engagement, we’re disabling norms and creating a world where everyone belongs.
What is your biggest success?
Our greatest achievement has been shifting community mindsets around disability through sustained advocacy and education. One milestone was the successful launch of our inclusive after-school program, which provides a safe, empowering space for children with and without disabilities to learn, play, and grow together. We’ve trained over 500 community members including educators, caregivers, and local leaders on accessibility and disability rights, leading to more inclusive practices in schools and public spaces. Seeing individuals who were once marginalized now stepping into leadership roles and advocating for themselves is proof that our work is creating real, lasting change.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
Our biggest hurdle has been overcoming deeply rooted societal stigma and misconceptions about disability. While structural barriers are significant, the attitudinal ones often run deeper and are harder to dismantle. Many communities still view disability through a lens of charity or pity rather than rights and inclusion. This has made it challenging to gain widespread buy in, especially in schools, workplaces, and public institutions. Additionally, limited funding and accessibility resources often slow down the implementation of inclusive programs. Despite these challenges, we remain committed to shifting narratives through education, storytelling, and community engagement proving that inclusion is not just possible, but powerful.
