Lawyered Up
What does your company do?
Lawyered Up, is a legal tech startup on a mission to make legal services more accessible, efficient, and affordable for small to medium-sized enterprises (SMMEs) and startups. Our platform uses AI to simplify contract creation, management, e-signatures, and compliance support, reducing the need for traditional paper-based legal work.
Unlike conventional law firms, we offer instant document generation, automated task reminders, and a centralized dashboard to track legal documents, all in one place. We also provide access to a vetted network of legal experts for tailored support.
With a 70% female African team, we’re not just building legal infrastructure, we’re driving inclusive innovation. What sets us apart is our commitment to empowering SMMEs with the tools they need to navigate legal complexities confidently, while contributing to environmental sustainability through paperless workflows.
What is your biggest success?
Our biggest success has been transforming Lawyered Up from a bootstrapped idea into a fully operational legal tech platform that is actively being used by businesses across Africa. We secured a major white-label deal with a leading financial institution, Old Mutual, and were selected as a finalist for the Women in Tech Tech Diplomat Award, placing in the top 5 out of over 1,000 nominations across Africa.
We've also been part of globally recognized accelerators like Google for Startups and Standard Chartered Women in Tech, which helped us find product-market fit. What makes this success meaningful is that we’ve done it while being 70% female-led, operating from Africa, and championing accessibility in a sector that’s often seen as exclusive and intimidating. For me, the true success is seeing small businesses thrive because they now have access to the legal tools they need to grow.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
Our biggest success has been transforming Lawyered Up from a simple idea into a purpose-driven platform making legal support accessible to small businesses across Africa. We secured a white-label deal with Old Mutual, were named a top 5 finalist for the Women in Tech Tech Diplomat Award, and I was honoured as Glamour Women of the Year 2024: Technology Gamechanger. I’ve also been featured in Forbes for my work at the intersection of tech, justice, and inclusive innovation.
But beyond awards and recognition, what truly defines our success is knowing that entrepreneurs, many of them women can now register their businesses, sign contracts, and stay compliant without fear or financial strain. I come from humble beginnings, and I know how hard it is to build something when the system isn’t built for you. Every time a founder tells us, “You made legal simple,” it reminds me why we started.
This journey proves that innovation from Africa can solve real problems and that access to justice should never be a luxury.
