Even Bow (Pty) Ltd
What does your company do?
Even Bow is a social enterprise which mainly develops and innovates different menstrual products for women with different menstrual needs to combat period poverty as well as other period related issues which women face. Even Bow also runs women empowerment and gender equality programs around the country educating women and girls about related topics. We pride ourselves is not just being innovative in the kinds of products we make being sustainable menstrual products, but in trying to cover the basis which is teaching women and girls how to take care of themselves and empower them.
What is your biggest success?
I have created these menstrual products by myself, each and everyone one of them. I made one for women like myself who suffer from endometriosis and have extremely heavy periods, I have made pads for little girls who start their periods early, I have made menstrual cups which come in a washable foldable container which I wish to have as part of stationary for young girls who are in school, and , I have created a washable menstrual underwear with innovative fabric.
Through the work that I do, I was given an opportunity to do my MBA with the Henley Business School which I recently completed. I have gotten another opportunity to do my Phd which focuses on empowering African women entrepreneurs through navigating the challenges they face when wanting to upscale their business. I wish to empower other through what I do, especially young people who are the change makers of our country.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
My biggest hurdle has been trying to get access to the market to get these products out there. I am sitting with about 500 000 menstrual products which I wish could reach the people who need them. I have also run out of funds because all the money I had has been spent in this initiative. As a social entrepreneur, I wish I could sell these products, but a huge part of me wants to make sure that they are accessible to those I serve with no cost to them at all. I don’t know how I will make that happen.
