Green Thumb Composting Company
What does your company do?
Green Thumb Composting Company provides mobile composting solutions to Hillbrow communities in South Africa. Our team uses innovative composting technology to convert organic waste, such as food scraps and agricultural waste, into high-quality compost that can be used to improve soil health and fertility.
Our mobile composting units are designed to be efficient and cost-effective, allowing us to bring our services directly to communities that may not have access to traditional composting facilities.
What is your biggest success?
I am incredibly proud of the impact that Green Thumb Composting has had on our communities, and it is difficult to choose a single achievement as my greatest. However, if I had to select one, it would be our work in promoting gender equality in rural areas.
By providing employment and training opportunities to women in these communities, we have helped to break down traditional gender barriers and create new economic opportunities for women. This has had a ripple effect, empowering women to take on leadership roles and supporting the broader goal of gender equality.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
Our biggest hurdle has been securing funding to expand our operations. As a small, social impact business, we often face challenges in securing traditional sources of funding such as loans or venture capital.
We have had to be creative in our approach to funding, exploring alternative sources such as impact investors and grant funding. However, this process can be time-consuming and challenging, requiring significant effort and resources to navigate.
