What is your biggest success?
I've managed to keep my business alive since 2018. After subcontracting and whitelisting my services to other agencies during covid, I went out back on my own again.
In the thick of things of doing it on my own independently and bootstrapping, I was approached by Pepkor Group to launch their new womenswear brand, AYANA. This moment felt like a culmination of all my years of experience and finally securing a big client of that size and a big responsibility for my agency. I felt like someone is really looking and giving me the flowers I deserve.
There are so many big successes, I've gone through but the one that stands out for me is serving my clients, my ability to amplify the work that they do. My favourite is seeing the growth and traction they receive after working with me. The positive feedback and trust they receive from their own clients and customers. That stuff is not tangible or quantitatively measured, but winning the hearts of others is the best.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
Like any SMME my biggest hurdle has been funding, which means I would always have to experiment and expand in a conservative rate. This slows down your growth as all the business ideas need some financial backing.
Another hurdle has been to be able to keep a healthy-life balance. I'm ALWAYS working and never switching off by closing my laptop and that can take a strain on me. I will find myself replying to an email in line while waiting to pay for my groceries, it may seem small but I'm always switched on because I love what I do.
