ECJ PHOTOGRAPHY & DESIGN
What does your company do?
Hessie Engelbrecht – ECJ Photography
Founder | Photographer
I’m Hessie Engelbrecht, the face behind ECJ Photography, established in 16/11/2015 in Limpopo. I specialize in capturing natural, in-the-moment photos that reflect real emotion and connection. My services include weddings, engagements, matric farewells, events, real estate, wildlife, and more.
I also offer custom wedding stationery and digital video invitations through ECJ Designs, helping clients bring their vision to life.
Over the past 8 years, I’ve grown ECJ Photography into a trusted name in the Limpopo area and beyond, not just offering a service, but an experience. I’ve also proudly partnered with luxury establishments like Palala Boutique Game Lodge & Spa, capturing the magic of their five-star safari destination through visual storytelling.
What is your biggest success?
My biggest success has been building ECJ Photography into a well-known and trusted brand in Limpopo over the past eight years. But for me, success isn't just about recognition — it's about the people.
I absolutely love meeting all kinds of people from different walks of life and making them feel comfortable, seen, and valued during every session. Whether I’m behind the camera or creating a design, my goal is always to bring joy.
When clients laugh, relax, and truly enjoy the experience — or even cry happy tears when they see the final result — that’s what fills my heart. Knowing that I’ve helped capture special moments or created something meaningful for someone is my real success. Building ECJ Photography wasn’t just a career journey — it’s been a journey of connection, passion, and purpose.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
My biggest hurdle has been starting and growing my business in a small town with limited resources and exposure. In the early days, I had to do everything on my own — from marketing and admin to photography and editing — all while building trust in a competitive industry. There were times when I doubted myself and felt unseen. But I kept going, fueled by my passion for storytelling through photography and design. Another challenge has been balancing the emotional weight of the job — especially when clients cry from joy because I captured something deeply meaningful. I carry those emotions with me, and it reminds me how important my work really is. Overcoming self-doubt, staying consistent, and believing in my purpose despite the noise — that has been my biggest hurdle, and also my greatest growth.
