MILKset is South Africa’s first breast milk freeze-drying service — created to support and empower mothers by offering a safe, reliable way to preserve their expressed breast milk.
As a mother, midwife, and theatre scrub nurse, I understand the deep emotional, physical, and practical challenges that come with breastfeeding and returning to work, expressing on a schedule, or simply trying to keep up with a baby’s changing needs.
MILKset takes your expressed milk and freeze-dries it using a medical-grade process that locks in nutrients, antibodies, and all the goodness of fresh breast milk — but in a shelf-stable, powdered form. We then return it to you in clearly labelled, convenient sachets that you can mix with fluids or pour over solids whenever needed. It's your milk, just made easier.
Our mission is to lighten the mental load of motherhood — to give moms more freedom, flexibility, and peace of mind, knowing that their milk is safely stored and ready for their baby, even when they can’t be there in person.

What is your biggest success?
At this early stage, my greatest success has been the impact Milkset has already had on mothers' lives. Every time a mom tells me that Milkset has eased her anxiety, given her peace of mind, or made her day just a little bit easier — that’s a win I cherish deeply.
Helping mothers feel more supported, more in control, and less overwhelmed during such a demanding season of life is the heart of why Milkset exists. That emotional connection, clients who became friends, and knowing I’ve made a meaningful difference, is the most rewarding success so far.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
My biggest hurdle has been starting a completely new type of business in a market where the concept is unfamiliar. Because breast milk freeze-drying is the first of its kind in South Africa, there is no established path — I’ve had to educate, build trust, and overcome skepticism, all while developing a process that is both safe and scientifically sound.
At the same time, managing every aspect of the business on my own — from operations and compliance to branding and customer service — while still working as a nurse and raising a family, has been an enormous personal challenge.
But these hurdles have also been my greatest teachers. They’ve pushed me to grow, to problem-solve creatively, and to build a business rooted in purpose and care. I’ve learned that starting small doesn’t mean thinking small — and that with passion and persistence, even the most unfamiliar ideas can take root.
