Note2Self by MJ Jewellery
What does your company do?
Note2Self is a purpose-driven social enterprise by MJ Jewellery empowering women and youth through intentional jewellery-making workshops, creative self-expression, and wellness education. We design and deliver transformative experiences where participants craft personalized, hand-stamped jewellery that becomes a wearable reminder of their resilience, self-worth, and inner strength.
Our mission is to foster emotional wellbeing and self-empowerment, particularly among underserved and vulnerable communities. Each workshop combines mindfulness, journaling, and artisan skills to create safe, reflective spaces that promote healing, confidence, and community.
Alongside our workshops, we offer a growing range of ethical, handmade affirmation jewellery and wellness merchandise. Proceeds from product sales help fund free or subsidized workshops for schools, NGOs, and partner organisations.
Note2Self bridges emotional wellness, creativity, and social impact—equipping individuals with tools to not only express themselves, but also believe in themselves.
What is your biggest success?
My greatest achievement has been founding MJ Jewellery, a handmade jewellery brand rooted in faith, resilience, and empowerment. Starting as a solo entrepreneur, I transformed my passion for creating meaningful, minimalist pieces into a growing business that uplifts women through self-expression and intentional living. Under this brand, I launched Note2Self — a social impact initiative combining hand-stamped affirmation jewellery making sessions that promote emotional wellness and personal growth. Despite numerous personal challenges, I am building a community centered on authenticity and empowerment. This journey has not only helped me reclaim my own identity but also inspired many women to embrace their resilience and purpose. I see this achievement as the foundation for scaling my impact, creating sustainable livelihoods, and nurturing emotional wellness in South African women.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
My biggest hurdle has been building MJ Jewellery amid personal adversity and limited funding. Early family loss, family estrangement, and a deep spiritual journey tested my resilience and focus. On top of managing production solo and carving out a space in a crowded market, lack of capital slowed growth and marketing efforts. Securing funding remains a challenge that limits how quickly I can scale and impact more women. I also faced the uphill task of shifting customer mindsets—from seeing affirmation jewellery as just a trend to recognizing its deeper, spiritually inspired meaning. Despite these obstacles, my faith and determination have kept me moving forward. These challenges have made MJ Jewellery and Note2Self stronger, turning them into platforms that empower women through intentional, authentic connection.
