Chella's Fudge Jars
What does your company do?
Chella’s Fudge Jars is a proudly South African, woman-led business that creates rich, creamy toffee fudge—lovingly handmade and beautifully packaged in glass jars. Our fudge isn’t just a sweet treat; it’s a nostalgic experience that brings comfort, joy, and connection. Whether it’s for gifting, celebrations, or personal indulgence, every jar is made with care and passion.
What started as a small idea at a local market quickly turned into a growing brand with loyal customers and a strong local presence. We aim to expand beyond our hometown of Welkom, sharing our products across the Free State and eventually the whole of South Africa. At Chella’s Fudge Jars, we believe in the power of quality, creativity, and heartfelt entrepreneurship to make something truly special—and unforgettable.
What is your biggest success?
Chella’s Fudge Jars' biggest success has been the incredible journey from a heartfelt idea to a fast-growing local brand that continues to exceed expectations.
From selling over 95% of our jars at our very first night market to completely selling out at a major market in May 2025, each moment has been proof that passion, hard work, and community connection pay off. Our Mother’s Day range received overwhelming support, followed by more than 36 Father’s Day orders—each handcrafted with love. But our greatest reward has been the growing number of comments, shares, follows, and smiles from customers who connect with the joy in every jar. These milestones remind us that we’re not just selling fudge—we’re creating memories, sharing comfort, and building something truly meaningful from the heart. Our story is still unfolding, and every success only fuels the dream further.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
Our biggest hurdle has been balancing rapid growth with limited resources as a small, founder-led business. Every jar is handmade, and as demand increased—especially during peak times like Mother’s Day and Father’s Day—it became challenging to keep up with production, packaging, and order management without compromising on quality.
Managing everything from marketing to fulfillment on my own, while still working from a home-based setup, required long hours and constant problem-solving. It also meant learning quickly how to scale without losing the personal touch that makes Chella’s Fudge Jars special. Despite these challenges, each hurdle has taught me resilience, time management, and the importance of planning for growth. With every obstacle, we’ve found a way to adapt and improve—and that’s made our journey even stronger.
