CoralBloom® Studio
What does your company do?
CoralBloom Studio is a South African design brand that transforms original watercolour artworks - hand-painted by my mother and sister, into elegant, functional products that celebrate nature. Inspired by the extraordinary biodiversity of South Africa, each design is a tribute to the plants and animals that make our landscapes so unique.
I translate their detailed botanical and wildlife illustrations into cohesive collections across homeware, accessories, stationery and lifestyle products - all proudly designed, printed and produced in South Africa. Every item reflects our deep commitment to craftsmanship, sustainability and timeless beauty.
Our production process is rooted in ethical, small-scale manufacturing. We work with a talented network of seamstresses across the country who are trained and upskilled to meet our high-quality standards. Each artisan works from home, allowing for flexible, empowering employment. We courier fabric to them and they return the finished pieces - creating a beautiful system of collaboration that supports local livelihoods.
All our textiles are printed using certified non-toxic, eco-friendly inks, ensuring our process is as gentle on the environment as it is on the eye.
Now, we’re thrilled to be expanding our creative vision with the launch of our first clothing line - bringing our nature-inspired art to life in wearable form. At CoralBloom, we don’t just make products, we tell visual stories rooted in nature, family and conscious design.
What is your biggest success?
Our greatest success has been partnering with Tourvest, one of Africa’s leading retail groups. Under the guidance of their senior buyer, we collaborated to create a bespoke CoralBloom collection featuring six original colourways. The range expanded a year later with two new themes due to its popularity. Over the past year, the collection has performed exceptionally well, consistently selling out within weeks of landing in stores. We are proud to be their top-selling supplier at two of their flagship locations. Tourvest’s team deeply values our original art and sustainable design approach, which has led to exciting new developments. They've commissioned a full women’s and men’s clothing line launching in September 2025. After previewing the samples, they have already commissioned a children’s range to follow. This growing partnership continues to affirm the strength of our creative vision and commitment to quality.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
Our biggest hurdle has been keeping up with demand as our product ranges often sell out faster than we can produce them. As a small start-up without funding or financial backing, we had to get creative with production and logistics. We discovered an inspiring solution: partnering with women across South Africa who love sewing and are eager to earn an income from home. We courier fabric and supplies to them and once their orders are complete, they send the finished products back via PUDO. From our home base in Stellenbosch, we quality check, pack and dispatch orders. To support consistency, we developed detailed sewing manuals and training kits. In the past year, a SEDA grant allowed us to loan 10 industrial sewing machines to our seamstresses, significantly increasing their output, product quality and the range of items they can make. This model has turned a challenge into a meaningful, scalable production solution!
