One Mom Every Role
What does your company do?
One Mom Every Role is an initiative that advocates for structured, sustained support for single mothers in South Africa. We recognise that single mothers often carry an overwhelming emotional, financial and logistical burden, with limited societal support or understanding. Our mission is to shift that narrative by creating platforms that not only acknowledge the multifaceted roles these women play but also provide tangible resources and opportunities for connection, growth and visibility.
At the heart of the initiative is our flagship event, One Mom Every Role: a full day event that took place on mothers day 2025. This curated gathering brings together single mothers for a meaningful experience that includes conversations with experts, peer connection, and brand engagements that are thoughtful and relevant. The event serves as both a celebration and a call to action, highlighting the need for policy shifts, corporate accountability and broader cultural recognition of the single motherhood experience.
What is your biggest success?
Our biggest success has been the flashship One Mom Every Role event, held on 10 May 2025 at the Radisson Collection Hotel in Cape Town. Despite being a first-time, self-funded initiative, we brought together over 100 single mothers for a powerful and affirming experience. The event created a safe space for connection, recognition, and real conversation, something many moms said they had never experienced before. What made it even more significant was the overwhelming support we received from Corporate South Africa. Brands across industries came on board not just as sponsors, but as active participants in the conversation about supporting single mothers. Their involvement signalled a readiness to shift the narrative and start investing in this overlooked yet powerful audience. The success of the event validated the need for this platform and proved that when we build with intention and purpose, the right partners and communities will show up.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
Our biggest success was executing the event on 10 May 2025, with no formal funding or budget to run the initiative. We are two full-time working professionals, building this platform entirely after hours, without any financial backing. Every element of the event: from the venue to the catering to the speaker lineup, was made possible through donations, favours, and in-kind support from a community that believed in our vision. Over 100 single mothers attended, and we received an overwhelmingly positive response from both the moms and Corporate South Africa, several of whom stepped up with product contributions and sponsorships. Pulling off such a high-impact event under these conditions was a huge milestone. It proved that the demand is real, the need is urgent, and the heart of the idea resonates. We built something powerful with nothing but purpose, persistence, and partnership and that’s a success we’re deeply proud of.
