What does your company do?
NEYAH is a South African modest fashion brand that creates timeless, versatile clothing made with intention. We design contemporary pieces for women who wants to dress modest without compromising on style. Each garment is locally made and thoughtfully crafted using slow fashion principles to reduce waste, and support ethical production. More than just a clothing brand, we aim to create a community that celebrates values, identity, and self-expression through intentional fashion.
What is your biggest success?
My biggest success has been launching NEYAH from my small bedroom and building a modest fashion brand that resonates with women who want to dress intentionally and feel confident in their values. I’ve focused on letting the garments and the vision of the brand speak for themselves, and despite limited resources and no influencer or Meta marketing, I’ve seen a growing community form around it. Every time someone chooses to purchase, it feels like the biggest milestone. I’m so grateful for each customer, their support has helped me grow not only the brand but also myself. I still have so much to learn and improve, but seeing even one person wear NEYAH makes it all worthwhile. That, to me, is success.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
My biggest hurdle has been growing NEYAH with limited funds while operating from my bedroom, currently making every garment myself to save costs and reinvest in the business. Sourcing dead stock fabric in South Africa to support our community, but this limits our ability to create custom textiles and choose sustainable quality fabric to our standards. Limited space makes it difficult to store materials consistently, which slows production and adds challenges. I’ve relied on organic growth through word of mouth, likes, shares, small competitions, and collaborations, all of which require patience and consistently showing up for the brand. Balancing creativity with the practical demands of running the business has been a learning curve, but the skills I’ve gained have helped me grow, strengthen the business, and lay the foundation to support a future team as NEYAH continues to grow.
