Gigi Lifestyle
What does your company do?
GigiLifestyle transforms underutilized properties into profitable rental spaces through strategic development and hands-on management. Our current project we are transitioning from long-term rentals developing into short-term holiday units on our Bloemfontein smallholding for platforms like Airbnb. Our end-to-end approach covers everything from renovations and landscaping to guest relations and sustainable upgrades. With plans to expand into container homes and regenerative housing, we're redefining rural property potential - one space at a time.
What is your biggest success?
My greatest success has been transforming a smallholding housing cottage into a rental space with potential, while laying the groundwork for an innovative hospitality and sustainability venture. Starting with traditional tenants, I identified an opportunity to pivot toward short-term eco-tourism by renovating a cozy self-catering unit for platforms like Airbnb. Despite limited resources, I’ve managed landscaping (which could be better), sourced sustainable materials, and working on a curated a unique aesthetic all while maintaining cash flow from an existing lease. This transition reflects my ability to adapt to market trends (like the demand for experiential travel) and my commitment to long-term vision over quick wins. The real triumph? Proving that a small-scale project can seed bigger dreams: regenerative housing and urban permaculture.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
Balancing immediate financial constraints with long-term ambitions has been my toughest challenge. Renovations demand capital, but as a self-funded entrepreneur, every decision from furniture purchases to permaculture infrastructure requires meticulous prioritisation. For example, I’ve had to phase landscaping while focusing on the unit’s interior to ensure it generates income sooner. Another hurdle is navigating Bloemfontein’s slower adoption of eco-tourism compared to coastal hubs, which means educating potential guests on the value of sustainable stays. Yet, these challenges have honed my problem-solving skills and resilience. I’ve learned to leverage local networks for cost-effective solutions (like upcycled materials) and to view hurdles as stepping stones toward a differentiated brand.
