The Stronger Space
What does your company do?
I host inclusive, empowering and meaningful workout events for women around Cape Town. (Eg. Silent disco workouts, rooftop classes and Africa’s first immersive workout experience) I host and create workouts and spaces for inclusive wellness, for women to show up as they are and to move and love their bodies.
I started hosting outdoor rooftop workout events during Covid-19, to bring women together - to move, connect, and feel safe in a time that felt really uncertain for all of us. At the start, all profits went towards women-led initiatives and South African charities.
(For example, ILoveBoobies, 60 cycles program and ActivateHer, a sports development program for girls in Khayelitsha)
That’s how strongerwithjoss started.
Walk in strong, leave stronger. Together.
What is your biggest success?
My biggest success was the, “She Means Business Talk” I hosted at the V&A Waterfront. It was a space for female entrepreneurs and business owners to come network and listen to six key motivational speakers on women’s health. We had locally owned businesses created by women, as vendors for the event. It was a big success as I believed people networked, made true female friendships and created a “strong space” for inclusive wellness and connection. It was completely different to my workout classes but it put me out my comfort zone. We were grounded and listening to one another. I was so proud of myself for organizing an event of this capacity on my own, but I couldn’t have done it without the women guiding, supporting and motivating me. I met the most incredible women who do amazing work in this country (entrepreneurs, business owners, breast cancer survivors and NPO owners) and wanted it to be a night for them to share how talented and resilient they truly are.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
After three years of hosting women-only workouts on my own, I started a new fitness brand with my partner. We hosted events across Cape Town. Pausing my personal brand to collaborate was one of my biggest hurdles, but at the time, our shared goal was to bring people together through movement, and that’s what we did.
Behind the scenes, I was creating, designing, and building most of the event concepts, which often felt overwhelming. But as the relationship became unhealthy, I chose myself and ended both the relationship and the brand.
Three months ago, I rebranded as The Stronger Space. A space for women to come together and speak openly and safely about our physical and mental well-being. That’s why I believe my business is only just on the rise and in the first 1000 days.
