Bokone-Bontle (Pty) Ltd
What does your company do?
Bokone-Bontle provides outsourced Human Resources and coaching services to small and medium-sized South African businesses. I founded the company in 2021 to support SMMEs that often lack the resources for in-house HR teams but still need to operate professionally, retain talent, and comply with labour laws. We offer a full range of HR services from recruitment, onboarding, policy development, compliance, and support with payroll giving entrepreneurs the structure and support they need to grow. What sets us apart is our coaching offering, which builds leadership capacity in SMME owners and their teams. Our goal is to help these businesses not only survive, but thrive by providing the people systems and personal growth support that unlock long-term success.
What is your biggest success?
Our greatest success has been sustaining and growing the business despite early setbacks because it allows us to continue delivering meaningful impact. When our first major client faced financial difficulties, it posed a serious threat to our operations. Rather than stepping back, I used the challenge to refine our value proposition and recommit to our mission: to support SMMEs in becoming compliant, confident, and sustainable employers. In the nine months following that loss, we steadily rebuilt and expanded our client base with several new HR service and coaching contracts. Each new client represents a business that now operates with more structure, reduced risk, and strategic support. Reaching break-even and maintaining stability has been a major milestone not only for Bokone-Bontle, but for the entrepreneurs and communities we serve. Staying in business means we can continue multiplying our impact helping small businesses grow, create jobs, and lead with purpose.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
One of the most significant challenges has been managing time and cash flow as a solo founder. I am responsible for business development, service delivery, administration, and coaching mentoring the two young people I’ve employed this places considerable pressure on my capacity. Additionally, many of the SMMEs we support experience delayed payments due to their own financial constraints, which in turn impacts our cash flow. This is a common issue in the sector, as small businesses often operate with unpredictable income cycles. Balancing client service excellence with the need to secure timely payments has been difficult. We are addressing this by setting clearer payment terms, fostering open communication with clients, and slowly building financial buffers. However, managing time effectively while navigating cash flow unpredictability remains one of our biggest ongoing hurdles.
