What is your biggest success?
One of Maruapula Brand’s greatest successes is being trusted on home soil to lead high-impact strategic projects that shape critical economic sectors, an honour we hold above international recognition. Our work with Gauteng Province, South Africa’s economic engine, illustrates this. Through brand health tracking, audits, and advisory services, we enhanced brand perception, engagement, and policy alignment within a R30 billion tourism economy. Our insights informed the monitoring and evaluation of tourism initiatives across international stakeholders, airports, airlines, municipalities, and businesses. We measured Destination Gauteng’s brand equity and effectiveness, helping it build public trust, strengthen stakeholder relationships, and compete globally. As one client noted, we clarified stakeholder intention, identified barriers to travel, and revealed emotional and functional brand attributes that matter most. Our work drove accountability, transparency, and customer-centricity, ensuring Destination Gauteng lived up to its brand promise while aligning with national priorities and delivering measurable, sustainable impact.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
Our biggest hurdle has been building a unified, transcontinental community around the Maruapula Brand. While we’ve successfully engaged diverse stakeholders across regions and sectors, we have yet to fully leverage the depth of our individual and complex experiences with these unique audiences. The richness of our work, spanning different sectors, professions, cultures and expectations, has not yet translated into a cohesive brand ecosystem or tribe that reflects the dynamism of our values. This fragmentation has limited our ability to harness collective momentum, amplify our influence, and build the kind of connected, purpose-driven community that mirrors the transformational work we do for others.
