African Female Voices
What does your company do?
At African Female Voices, we are dedicated to empowering women across Africa through a multifaceted approach that addresses critical issues and fosters positive change. Our key initiatives include:
Empowerment: We equip women with the tools, knowledge, and resources they need to navigate various challenges in their lives, focusing on career development, education, and personal growth.
Advocacy: We advocate against harmful practices such as female genital mutilation and child marriages, and work to combat gender-based violence while promoting gender equality and equal pay.
InnovateHER Program: Our signature initiative aims to enhance the participation of young women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields by providing mentorship, academic resources, and support to female students pursuing careers in these traditionally male-dominated areas.
Storytelling: We highlight the unique narratives of African women, celebrating their diversity and contributions to society. This storytelling aspect raises awareness and fosters a sense of community.
Networking and Community Building: We create opportunities for women to connect, collaborate, and support one another through various events, workshops, and outreach activities.
Education and Awareness: We engage in educational outreach to raise awareness of gender-related issues and promote policies that support women's rights and empowerment.
Content Creation: Our platform provides content tailored to the needs of African women, with translations available in Arabic, Swahili, and French, covering lifestyle topics such as health, beauty, fashion, and personal development.
Collaboration and Partnerships: We work with various organizations, including GAMCOTRA in The Gambia, DOHS in Nigeria, UN Women, Focus Congo, the Darfur Women’s Action Group, and Nalafem, to amplify our impact and reach.
Support for Women in High-Conflict Zones: We empower women living in high-conflict areas by advocating for their rights and providing essential support tailored to their unique challenges.
Sensitization and Engagement: We conduct sensitization campaigns to inform communities about gender issues, encouraging engagement and collaboration towards creating a more equitable society.
What is your biggest success?
One of my greatest achievements is the launch of the InnovateHER project, which specifically aims to empower young women in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields by providing mentorship, academic resources, and support that help them succeed in these traditionally male-dominated areas. This initiative has had a profound impact on the lives of numerous female students, inspiring them to pursue careers in STEM and break down barriers.
Additionally, I take pride in our advocacy efforts against female genital mutilation and child marriages, which have raised awareness and contributed to positive policy changes in communities across Africa. Through partnerships with organizations such as GAMCOTRA and UN Women, we have been able to amplify our reach and influence, creating a network of support for women.
Another significant achievement is our commitment to content creation that resonates with African women, offering translations into Arabic, Swahili, and French, thus making our resources accessible to a broader audience. We have also successfully organized various workshops and events that foster networking and collaboration among women, creating a strong sense of community and support.
Furthermore, our educational outreach initiatives have effectively raised awareness about gender-related issues, promoting gender equality and empowering women to advocate for their rights. Overall, these accomplishments reflect our dedication to empowering women and making a meaningful difference in the community.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
We are self funded and rely on collaborations. I use my job to fund 100% of the activities which is difficult with the growth of the organisation.
