Envelop Empowerment Group & Gilnokie
What does your company do?
Envelop is a 100% black female-owned enterprise committed to building a sustainable pipeline of high-impact SMMEs in South Africa. We empower, develop, and support entrepreneurs — from idea stage to growth — by equipping them with the practical tools, skills, and market access they need to thrive.
We operate as both a distributor of quality Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and a business development partner. Our core customers are SMMEs — and we understand their realities because we’re one of them.
Our PPE offering doesn’t just fulfil a compliance need — it enables small businesses to operate safely, legally, and competitively in high-risk sectors like construction, manufacturing, and logistics.
We believe in SMMEs because they are the lifeblood of our economy — agile, job-creating, and deeply rooted in communities.
Alongside Envelop, I also lead Gilnokie, a business born from the very principles Envelop stands for.
Gilnokie began as a partnership with an already established entrepreneur who had the drive to grow, but needed support to unlock new potential. By bringing in our expertise in funding access, market development, and strategic positioning, we helped Gilnokie evolve from producing industrial products into the sports performance and technical apparel space.
Today, Gilnokie is innovating in endurance-focused activewear and performance garments — a transformation that demonstrates what’s possible when vision is matched with the right support.
Together, Envelop and Gilnokie showcase the full spectrum of our mission: from empowering first-time entrepreneurs to scaling existing businesses with bold ideas. It's all about amplifying, multiplying, and nurturing potential — wherever it may be
What is your biggest success?
Two of my proudest moments have been seeing my businesses grow year on year, and completing my MBA. Watching the business I started gain recognition, attract partnerships, and earn the respect of industry peers has been both fulfilling and humbling. It’s a powerful experience to steer a vision, and then see others believe in it enough to want to collaborate or be associated with it.
Completing my MBA was another deeply significant milestone. The journey was both humbling and excruciating — requiring personal sacrifice, discipline, and a shift in mindset. But the learnings I took from it have been transformational. I’ve applied those insights directly into my business, and I’ve already seen remarkable improvements and sustainable growth.
Together, these experiences have shaped the leader I am today — grounded in purpose, committed to learning, and driven by impact.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
My biggest hurdle has been overcoming self-doubt and the pressure to constantly prove myself — both as a woman and as a leader in a male-dominated industry. For a long time, I underestimated my own value, often downplaying my achievements to avoid being seen as boastful. This mindset made it harder to advocate for myself or take credit where it was due.
Another significant hurdle has been navigating the emotional toll of leadership — especially when facing tough decisions, setbacks, or carrying the weight of responsibility for others’ livelihoods.
Over time, I’ve learned to shift from self-doubt to self-belief, to lead with authenticity, and to embrace my role fully. Surrounding myself with mentors, building a strong support network, and leaning into continuous learning have helped me overcome this challenge and grow stronger as a leader and entrepreneur.
