Mindful(l) Organisation
What does your company do?
Founded in March 2020, Mindful(l) Organisation is dedicated to fostering equitable mental health outcomes and a deeper sense of community among South African youth. As a youth-centred mental health organisation, we strive to destigmatize mental illness and cultivate a culture of collective care through holistic, creative, and peer-driven healing initiatives.
Our two-tiered approach integrates mental health education and psychosocial support with community-based healing interventions. We empower young people with the language and tools needed to understand and manage their mental well-being, while also creating safe spaces and culturally relevant activations that meet them where they are.
Whether through individualised support or collective healing, Mindful(l) Organisation exists to ensure that no young person has to navigate their mental health journey alone.
What is your biggest success?
Mindful(l)’s biggest achievement to date has been the launch of our free psychosocial support services in November last year. While we've long been a trusted resource for mental health education, wellness engagement, and community connection, introducing free individual and group counseling has taken our mission to a new level. This milestone has allowed us to meaningfully reduce inequality in mental health care by ensuring that young people—regardless of their background, identity, or financial status—can access the support they need. Providing accessible, affirming mental health care has been our most powerful and rewarding step toward true collective care.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
Our biggest hurdle is meeting the growing demand for affirming, relatable mental health care with the limited resources of a small team. As more young people reach out for support, our capacity to respond effectively is stretched thin. We currently operate without the means to compensate our dedicated team—despite their incredible commitment and the vital work they do.
While we continue to pour our passion into building the Mindful(l) brand and supporting our communities, the lack of consistent funding makes it difficult to sustain and scale our services. This reality impacts our ability to reach everyone who needs us and to care for the very people driving the work. Balancing this passion with the practical need for financial sustainability is our greatest and most pressing challenge.
