MM Stationery Shoppers
What does your company do?
MM Stationery Shoppers is a South African, women-led concierge stationery service that takes the stress out of back-to-school and office supply shopping. We partner directly with schools to ensure we have the correct stationery lists, which parents can then customise to suit their child’s needs. Powered by a user-friendly WhatsApp chatbot, parents can order from the comfort of their couch and add convenient extras like book covering and labelling to beat the back-to-school rush. From sourcing to nationwide delivery, we offer a personalised, time-saving experience that combines the care of a personal shopper with the ease of modern tech.
What is your biggest success?
One of my biggest successes with MM Stationery Shoppers has been turning a bold idea into a fast-growing, tech-enabled business that’s already making waves in its first year. I successfully crowdfunded over R300,000.00, partnered with 10 schools to ensure accurate stationery lists, and got over 100 parents to use the platform—proving strong demand for our concierge-style service. I introduced a WhatsApp chatbot that allows parents to easily order from home, customise their packs, and add extras like book covering and labelling. I was selected to join the prestigious Raizcorp incubator, built my own digital platform, and am now in the process of finalising a patent—cementing my place as an innovator in the education and e-commerce space. My success lies in blending technology, empathy, and efficiency to simplify back-to-school shopping, while building a brand that parents trust and schools want to partner with.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
My biggest hurdle with MM Stationery Shoppers has been securing consistent funding to sustain and scale the business. While the initial crowdfunding of over R300,000.00 helped validate the concept and build the platform, maintaining momentum without steady capital has been challenging. Balancing the operational demands of a growing business—especially during peak back-to-school season—while managing cash flow, supplier relationships, and customer expectations has tested my resilience. Building trust with schools and onboarding them into a new way of doing things also took time and persistence. Additionally, being a solo founder navigating tech development, logistics, and marketing simultaneously stretched my capacity. Despite these challenges, I’ve stayed committed to the vision, joined the Raizcorp incubator to access mentorship and resources, and continued refining the business model. Every obstacle has reinforced my determination to build a sustainable, scalable solution that truly supports parents and schools.
