SpecialMe
What does your company do?
At SpecialMe we take care of children with different disabilities from birth to 18 years. We teach them to be independent, doing their daily routine by themself. From brushing their teeth, comp the hair and to dress themselves. As they go through all these steps, we talk with them what we are doing. Potty training, to eat by themselves. The ECD educator create lessons to work on their fine motor skills, pencil grip, colouring and shapes. For stimulation we sing along and dance.
What is your biggest success?
Despite economical constrains, I have still been able to keep the school open for the last five years. The number of children vairy from month to month, depending on whether the parents can afford their fees for the month.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
Finance, due to most of the children comes from disadvantage backgrounds, sometimes school fees are not paid. Some of the children, transport is an issue, parents can't afford to pay school fees and transport. I try to accommodate parents by paying half of the school fees, but sometimes in the end they take their child out of the school. I also extended the due date for school fees to be paid on the 7th of each month for those who use the child grand to pay the fees. Sometimes I struggle to pay the staff due to all these factors.
