What is your biggest success?
Our greatest success is the tangible and lasting impact we’ve made in developing South Africa’s next generation of leaders and entrepreneurs. We have trained over 6,500 young people in leadership, nurturing critical thinking, resilience, and purpose-driven action. Beyond training, we’ve mentored 15 aspiring entrepreneurs, many of whom have gone on to build thriving businesses that are creating jobs and addressing local challenges. Our support has enabled the graduation of over 100 students, and we currently have more than 150 university students across South African institutions receiving continued mentorship, skills development, and strategic support.
Importantly, 60% of the businesses under our mentorship are youth-led, reflecting our mission to build an entrepreneurial class that drives inclusive growth. We’ve also established a collaborative network of 15 partner organizations and companies, forming a vibrant ecosystem for business consultancy, mentorship, and resource-sharing.
These milestones reflect more than just numbers—they represent transformed lives, empowered communities, and a sustainable model for youth-driven economic development. At Lilifa Lethu Capital, we are building more than businesses—we are shaping a movement of young leaders equipped to build Africa’s future.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
Our biggest hurdle has been securing consistent, flexible funding to scale our impact and sustain long-term support for youth-led initiatives. While our programs have achieved remarkable outcomes, training thousands and mentoring hundreds, the demand for our services continues to grow beyond available resources. Many young entrepreneurs need ongoing guidance, capital, and infrastructure, but without stable funding, we face limitations in expanding access, retaining skilled mentors, and investing in innovation. Additionally, navigating complex funding landscapes and aligning with donor priorities can divert focus from core program delivery. Despite this, we’ve remained resilient building strong partnerships, leveraging volunteer networks, and operating with high impact at a lean cost. This challenge has strengthened our commitment to sustainability, pushing us to explore revenue-generating models and deepen our investment-readiness as an organization. Overcoming funding barriers remains key to unlocking the full potential of our vision: a self-sustaining, youth-led ecosystem driving inclusive development across South Africa.
