What is your biggest success?
One of my biggest successes with Empyreal Essentials has been developing a strong brand identity that resonates deeply with our target audience. In just over a year, we’ve built a loyal community through consistent engagement on social media. This has led to a growing base of repeat customers who not only come back for our products but also actively recommend them to others. Word-of-mouth has become one of our strongest marketing tools, proving that our products deliver real value. This organic growth, without major advertising budgets, reflects both the trust we’ve built and the effectiveness of our skincare solutions.
Another significant achievement has been my commitment to improving my business acumen. I recently completed a business training course and earned a certificate, which greatly opened my mind to the fundamentals of running a business. This training gave me valuable insights into financial management, marketing strategies, and the importance of building a sustainable business model. It helped me realize areas for improvement and better equip me to handle the challenges of scaling Empyreal Essentials.
This combination of brand development and personal growth has been instrumental in our journey so far. I’m confident that the lessons learned from both our customer base and the training will help drive our continued success.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
One of the biggest hurdles I’ve faced with Empyreal Essentials has been navigating limited funding, especially when it comes to scaling production and marketing. As a self-funded startup, I had to be extremely resourceful — often balancing small inventory batches with fluctuating demand, which sometimes led to delays or missed opportunities for growth. Without a large marketing budget, breaking through the noise in a highly saturated skincare market has also been challenging. I’ve had to rely heavily on organic marketing and word-of-mouth, which, while effective, takes more time and consistency to build momentum.
Another challenge has been establishing trust as a new brand. Some potential customers have hesitated to purchase because they want assurance that our products are tested and safe. While all our products are developed in collaboration with a qualified chemist and use safe, high-quality ingredients, I’ve learned the importance of clearly communicating this upfront.
Lastly, I’ve had to grow significantly in terms of financial literacy. In the beginning, I struggled with poor record keeping and lacked a proper system to track income, expenses, and product margins. This affected decision-making early on, but I’ve since started learning and implementing better financial practices.
Each of these hurdles has taught me valuable lessons. I now understand the importance of transparency, strategic planning, and financial structure — and I’m using those lessons to build a stronger, more sustainable business. These experiences have shaped me as a founder and prepared me for the next stage of growth
