What does your company do?
Nomhlekhabo is a community based, family support NPO that caters for the
needs of rape victims, survivors of substance abuse. Our organisation aims
at providing a platform between victims and offenders in rape cases through
spearheaded campaigns that ensure that the community enjoys their full
human rights. Nomhlekhabo encourages people to be aware of their rights by
advocating efforts against gender-based violence. The organisation strongly
opposes suppression of information by any entity, including the national,
provincial, and local government. Nomhlekhabo aims to pursue peace in the
community but do so in pursuit of justice for victims. We also aim to ensure
that victims of substance abuse are given the require support and treatment
needed to get them back on their feet and contribute a positively to the
community.
It has also embark on a journey with #OperationLukisaSgela (#OLS) on focusing on promoting a safe and supportive learning environment together with the RCL's, Teachers & the SGB's.
What is your biggest success?
Being able to further my studies in supporting the social needs of my community, and giving the support through the following:
-Counselling
-Rehabilitation
-Psychosocial Support (self-esteem and awareness building
exercises)
-Entertainment and recreational activities, physical exercises
-Sheltering (providing security, adequate food and clothing, and a
hygienic environment)
-Legal and social protection.
-Legal counselling for human rights of shelter beneficiaries
What has been your biggest hurdle?
Not getting the support and funds from their trusted stakeholders, even though we have made contacts, and reached out..
We continues to volunteer using our own resources in order to see the success.
