NPO/Khayelitsha Cricket Club
What does your company do?
Khayelitsha Cricket Club, established in 1989 and registered as an NPO in 2020, promotes and develops cricket in Khayelitsha, one of South Africa’s most underserved communities. Affiliated with the Western Province Cricket Association and a proud participant in the Cricket South Africa (CSA) Hubs initiative, the Club provides youth with structured sports opportunities, access to bursaries, mentorship, and personal development. We serve over 200 members and compete across multiple WPCA leagues, developing players who represent provincial and national teams.
What is your biggest success?
My greatest achievement has been stepping up as a volunteer administrator at Khayelitsha Cricket Club and driving the scholarship process that has enabled several young players to access quality education through sport. By identifying a gap in the Club’s administration, I took on the role of Club Secretary, coordinating fixtures, hosting matches, communicating with parents, and managing documentation. Through this, I’ve helped secure bursaries and placements at top schools like Wynberg Boys, Bishops, and Somerset College. Watching players from our community go on to represent Western Province and South Africa is a powerful reminder of how structure and support can unlock potential. I am proud to be part of that journey, offering more than just cricket offering hope, direction, and real opportunity.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
The biggest hurdle has been operating in an environment with limited resources while trying to meet the growing needs of our youth. As a volunteer at Khayelitsha Cricket Club, I’ve witnessed first-hand how poverty, unemployment, and lack of access to transport and equipment can hinder young talent. Many families cannot afford basic cricket gear or school fees, yet their children show incredible potential. Balancing administrative responsibilities with securing support, funding, and sponsorships while still managing my own responsibilities as a parent has been challenging. The emotional toll of watching deserving children miss opportunities due to circumstances beyond their control is the hardest part. But these challenges also fuel my commitment to make every effort count.
