What does your company do?
African Nosh specializes in producing and promoting traditional fermented sorghum, known as Ting. Ting is a nutritious, fermented grain product widely consumed in various African cultures, celebrated for its health benefits and rich, tangy flavor. At African Nosh, we focus on crafting high-quality, authentic Ting that captures the essence of African culinary heritage. Our product is made from locally sourced sorghum, offering a gluten-free, probiotic-rich option for modern diets. We aim to introduce this ancient superfood to global markets while supporting sustainable agriculture and preserving African food traditions.
What is your biggest success?
One of my biggest successes has been being part of the winning team at the Agroprocessing competition during Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) 2022. My product is sold in a retail store Goseame Fresh Food Market Additionally, I achieved significant milestones by receiving SABS certification in Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP), which affirmed our commitment to quality and safety in food production. This success has helped elevate our brand, fostered growth, and opened new doors for future opportunities.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
My biggest hurdle has been navigating the complex regulatory requirements in the food industry. Ensuring that my product meets all the necessary standards for safety, quality, and compliance has been challenging, especially as a small business owner. The process of obtaining certifications such as GMP and HACCP required significant time, effort, and resources. Additionally, managing production scaling while maintaining consistent product quality has been difficult. Balancing these operational challenges with the financial pressures of running a business was a constant struggle. However, overcoming these hurdles has taught me resilience, the importance of careful planning, and how to adapt to industry demands, ultimately strengthening my business.
