MaDFun Studio (pty) ltd
What does your company do?
My business is a performing arts company specializing in dance and music. The Studio is home to the Overberg Youth Choir and provides performing arts training to various schools in the Overberg area. Currently, I train children ages 3 to 18, as well as women in dance fitness, both in the Studio and online. Dance and music is used as a tool of transformation and empowerment.
What is your biggest success?
Seeing the impact that dance & music has - the power of changing the lives of children and extending into families. Various dance students have been awarded the best dance group in national Eisteddfods hosted online and in person. The choirs have been selected as one of the best choirs in the Schools' Arts Festival consecutively, performing in the Gala each year. The business has grown from 3 students to well over 900 students impacted by the power of the arts each week.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
Funding the infrastructure that assists in training in the Studio. Currently the business is dependent on membership fees, which cover running costs. Another hurdle is the importance of performing arts for overall development not being considered a priority - especially in a society where sport takes preference. Sport, academics and the arts can co-exist, in this manner ensuring the holistic development of children and families being postively impacted as a result.
