Bolunga Systems
What does your company do?
Bolunga Systems is a comprehensive ICT services company offering telecommunications consulting, database services, cybersecurity, fibre infrastructure, and IoT monitoring solutions. We consult for public and private sector clients while also championing community development. We run and partner with various companies to facilitate and consult in ICT deployments, training, and system integration. Our social arm includes hosting TVET students for practical learning—many of whom secure permanent employment afterward. We merge innovation with inclusion by implementing smart, scalable technologies while empowering underserved communities through mentorship, entrepreneurship facilitation, and digital literacy programs.
What is your biggest success?
One of our proudest successes has been creating real career pathways for youth. Bolunga Systems has partnered with multiple ICT stakeholders to host TVET college students for their workplace-based learning. Several of these students have transitioned into permanent employment through our guidance and industry exposure. Additionally, our collaborative work with Sentech to provide practicals for Set-Top Box installation training helped expand access to technical skills. We’ve also designed and implemented successful Smart Agriculture, fibre rollout, and IoT monitoring projects that not only contributed to our clients’ operational efficiency but also created jobs and fostered local economic growth. These success stories affirm our belief in inclusive innovation.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
Our biggest hurdle has been navigating access to consistent funding and infrastructure support for community-based digital initiatives. As a growing Black woman-owned business, we've had to overcome limited access to capital while competing in a male-dominated tech sector. Additionally, working in rural and township communities presents logistical challenges—from connectivity gaps to unreliable electricity. Scaling our training and ICT services in these areas requires persistent advocacy, flexible models, and dependable partnerships. Despite these obstacles, we have remained resilient, adaptive, and committed to ensuring that digital empowerment reaches even the most underserved communities.
