Atang Children's Village and Recreation Centre
What does your company do?
Atang Children's Village and Recreation Centre (ACVARC) is a non-profit organization registered with the Department of Social Development, dedicated to providing a comprehensive support system for disadvantaged children, youth, and women in rural areas. Our mission is to empower rural communities and provide basic human needs, informative knowledge, support groups, and promoting the spirit of togetherness. NPO Founded by Tholakele Mahlaba, ACVARC aims to bridge the gap in service delivery for vulnerable populations, promoting holistic development, education, and economic empowerment.
What is your biggest success?
One of our greatest achievements is adopting Zamile Pre-school and providing them with much-needed support through fundraising efforts. Witnessing the children's joy and growth makes all our hard work worthwhile.
We're proud to have sustained our NPO without sponsorship, and now we're expanding our initiatives. On May 24, 2025, we'll be launching a GBV support group, bringing together law enforcement, social workers, community leaders, and media partners to create a robust support system.
What has been your biggest hurdle?
One of our biggest challenges is accessing funding, which hinders our ability to effectively support our beneficiaries. Limited resources restrict our reach and impact, making it difficult to provide the level of care and assistance we aspire to.
Additionally, we've encountered cases requiring law enforcement or specialized support, but lacked the internal resources to address them adequately. In such instances, we've had to refer our beneficiaries to external organizations or authorities, hoping they'd receive the necessary help.
This highlights the need for a dedicated support system within our organization. To address this gap, we're launching a GBV support group, which will provide a comprehensive and coordinated response to the needs of our beneficiaries.
Furthermore, we have a 1-hectare piece of land that we've acquired with the vision of building a safe haven for those in need. However, we currently lack the funding to develop this land and turn our vision into a reality. Securing funding for this project would be a significant step towards providing a stable and supportive environment for our beneficiaries.
