Glynn Mashonga, Globescope Security

Founder and chief executive of Globescope Security Glynn Mashonga is revolutionising the security industry with her bold vision and relentless drive. Her commitment to making communities safer and her ability to navigate the male-dominated security sector have earned her this year’s esteemed Readers’ Choice award.

Growing up in Mitchells Plain, a crime-riddled area, Glynn’s desire to create safer environments manifested early on. ‘It was too dangerous for me to even walk to the local shop,’ she recalls. ‘Being constantly on edge due to crime in the community, I was strong in my resolve to do something about it.’ This early experience inspired her to launch Globescope Security in 2019, with the aim of addressing both personal and corporate security concerns.

Globescope Security offers a comprehensive range of security solutions, from intruder alarm systems and CCTV installations to advanced fire detection systems and electric fencing. The company even runs an accredited training centre for future security professionals. Despite fierce competition in the security market, Glynn’s company has set itself apart by focusing on superior service, state-of-the-art technology and unbeatable pricing. ‘We hold our own against the giants,’ she says. ‘Our pioneering spirit drives us to the forefront of the security industry.’

The company’s rapid success is a testament to her leadership. ‘We built our client base from zero to more than 50, including large listed corporates.’ Even through the challenges posed by Covid-19, her team not only survived but thrived, expanding in both personnel and scope. ‘The Covid crisis created an opportunity for me as an entrepreneur to diversify the company’s income streams, and we were able to adapt to the new normal.’

The road to success has not been without hurdles. ‘One of our largest challenges was making inroads in a male-dominated industry,’ Glynn explains. ‘I had to constantly prove my capabilities.’ Determined to succeed, she learnt the technical intricacies of installations and wiring, making her both a technician and a business leader.

Glynn has ambitious plans for Globescope. ‘Our short-term goal is to be listed on one of the security exchanges,’ she says. The company also hopes to expand into Tanzania, Botswana and Zambia. ‘We want to become a globally recognised brand, and the service provider of choice in South Africa.’

To aspiring, young business leaders, Glynn offers words of encouragement: ‘Seize opportunities as they arise and start building momentum, even if it is with small steps.’ Her mantra? ‘Never give up – persistence is the key to achieving your goals.’
